Common ENT and Allergy Conditions: When to See a Specialist

Health TipsJanuary 22, 20255 min readDr. David Jakubowicz

Ear, nose, and throat conditions are among the most common reasons people visit a doctor. While many of these issues—like a common cold or mild seasonal allergies—resolve on their own or with over-the-counter treatment, some require specialist evaluation and care.

You should consider seeing an ENT specialist if you experience chronic sinusitis (sinus infections that last more than 12 weeks or recur frequently), persistent nasal obstruction, recurring ear infections, unexplained hearing loss, chronic sore throat or hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, or persistent dizziness or balance problems.

Allergies are another common concern, especially in urban environments. If over-the-counter allergy medications aren't providing relief, or if your allergies significantly impact your quality of life, allergy testing can identify specific triggers and guide targeted treatment, including immunotherapy (allergy shots) that can provide long-term relief.

At Essen Health Care, our ENT and Allergy department provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services. We use state-of-the-art technology for allergy testing, hearing evaluations, and minimally invasive procedures to help patients breathe easier and hear better.
