Understanding High Blood Pressure: What Every Patient Should Know
High blood pressure affects nearly half of American adults. Learn about risk factors, symptoms, and how to manage your numbers effectively.
Preventive screenings are one of the most powerful tools women have to protect their health. Yet many women delay or skip recommended screenings due to busy schedules, fear, or lack of awareness about what's needed and when.
In your 20s and 30s, focus on annual well-woman exams, Pap smears every three years (or every five years with HPV co-testing), STI screenings as recommended, blood pressure checks, and skin cancer checks. If you have a family history of breast cancer, discuss early mammography with your provider.
In your 40s, add annual mammograms to your routine. Continue Pap smears, get your cholesterol checked every five years, and consider diabetes screening if you have risk factors. Thyroid function tests may also be appropriate.
In your 50s and beyond, continue mammograms, begin colorectal cancer screening, get bone density testing for osteoporosis, and discuss cardiovascular health with your provider. After age 65, discuss whether you still need Pap smears based on your screening history.
At Essen Health Care, our OB-GYN and primary care teams work together to ensure women at every stage of life receive appropriate preventive care. Schedule your screening today.
